Well, sadly most of them were wiped out.
In the era of 1860, most of the witches were murdered. Luckily some of the most powerful have managed to salvage their lines. For a while the witches bonded with the vampires to keep themselves strong but slowly the bond eroded and the witches became closer to the humans and shape shifters, often hiding their powers.
